Year 5 Trip to River Bollin - Thursday 19th June 2008

Year 5 enjoyed great weather for our trip to the River Bollin.  Once again we were kept well informed and entertained by Brian, the Cheshire Ranger, who knows everything there is to know about rivers, plants, animals and how to keep your butter cool if you haven't got a fridge....  Year 5 were able to show off their own knowledge of erosion, deposition and the water cycle but it wasn't just a Geograhy lesson - we learnt a lot about The Carrs in the last century too.

Visiting German Teachers - Wednesday 21st May 2008

Two teachers, Anja and Bernd, from Berlin in Germany spent 2 weeks with us, gaining experience of the English school system.  They observed and worked with classes throughout the school, teaching children about Germany and the language.  The photos below show some Year 5 children doing their presentations on Berlin landmarks and learning greetings and other German vocabulary.  A joint project is now to be set up between Gorsey Bank and a school in Berlin, giving children the opportunity to communicate with German children.

World Book Day - Thursday 6th March 2008

Thursday March 6th is World Book Day. In response to feedback from parents we have decided to have a break from dressing up but will still be celebrating reading and literature across the school.

The children''s author Liz Kessler will be coming in to meet our Year 3's and talk about her new book 'Phillipa Fisher's Fairy Godsister''. Our Year 6's will be watching a performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and we have a smattering of writing workshops for some other year groups as well!

Our library enters its next phase as we learn how to use the book review facility to let everyone else in the school know what's 'good to read'.

On World Book Day we will be giving all of the children a £1 book voucher and a book fair will take place in the hall on Thursday 13th March with 60% of the proceeds going towards further books for the library.

Why not visit the World Book via the link below to access a whole host of fun activities.

Arts Week

In January we had an Arts Week. The whole school spent their week focussing on Arts subjects, including drama, dance, music and art and design. We shared our work in a Friday assembly with the whole school and in our Key Stage Assemblies.

We had seven Arts professionals visiting our school to share their art and work with the children. Opportunities included workshops with Artists in Residence at Manchester City Art Gallery. The artists who came to visit were Pat Mountford (painter), Susie MacMurray (sculpture), Katy McCall (fine artist), Jim Medway (illustrator), Harriet Hall (photographer) and Ceris Faulkner (dancer).

All the teachers and children especially enjoyed taking part in a Salsa lesson with a specialist teacher.

Miss McLane's Year 3 class worked with an artist called Jan Gardener, on the entitlement project 'The Year of the Gardens,' which will be exhibited at Woodford Lodge Professional Centre in the summer term. Their multi media work will be displayed in school until it needs to be taken to this exhibition.

A group of children were chosen to work with Mrs Sutcliffe-Cole, our music teacher, and they performed their musical composition in our Friday Assembly.

School Assembly - Monday 21st January 2008

Sadly we say goodbye to Reverend Tony Sparham who is leaving Wilmslow and St Bartholomew’s to work in the Solomon Islands. He gave us a fantastic "farewell assembly" as the photograph shows, with pupils singing native songs using native instruments.
